Rate of Pay: $48,960 plus Benefits

DESCRIPTION
This program aims to increase access to information, resources and support for people living with or at risk for HIV/HCV infection incarcerated in Ontario federal prisons.
Job Duties:

  • Develop and deliver capacity building peer educator trainings on HIV/HCV issues for federally incarcerated prisoners living with or at risk for HCV infection.
  • Develop relevant HIV/HCV educational resources materials for distribution to federally incarcerated prisoners
  • Provide individual advocacy and case management support on the phone and during prison visits for prisoners living with HIV/Hep C
  • Provide referrals as necessary to prisoners living with Hep C
  • Develop and deliver skills building trainings on HCV, Co-infection and other prison health issues for service providers
  • Develop and implement appropriate evaluation tools to measure the impact of program.
  • Foster partnerships and collaborate with diverse community partners and stake holders.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete funder reports and other administrative work as required.
  • Liaise with inmate committees
  • Work on one systemic prison issues per year chosen in consultation with the Prison

HIV/AIDS & Hep C Research & Advocacy Consortium.

  • Maintain ongoing consultation with correctional staff and community partners
  • Attend health and pre-release fairs
  • Participate in staff professional development/training as required.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications:
  • Understanding of the health and social impact of the criminal justice system on individuals and society and experience working with HIV and HCV issues including a well-developed knowledge of relevant resources.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience working with prisoner/ex-prisoner communities/client groups vulnerable to incarceration
  • Ability to determine needs, develop programs and facilitate community initiatives
  • Experience developing, facilitating and evaluating targeted education and training workshop.
  • Excellent facilitation, teaching and training skills
  • Expertise in planning and implementing programming-related initiative
  • Familiarity with community based research and general research methodologies
  • In depth knowledge of the social determinants of health
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of harm reduction principles and practice.
  • Expertise in community development focusing on marginalized communities.
  • Experience working within an anti-racist / anti-oppressive framework
  • Demonstrated skills preparing presentations, reports, program plans, educational materials, brochures, etc.
  • Ability to develop and sustain partnerships, coordinate networks and support advocacy strategies
  • Demonstrated experience with case management
    Strong problem solving and communication skills and ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure meet deadlines and ability to work both independently and within a team structure
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems/conflicts and take appropriate actions, to organize and prioritize work.
  • Sound decision-making and judgment skills with the ability to effectively manage communications with community, committees and coalitions.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with PASAN’s related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices
    Position Requirements:
    • Ability to obtain clearance into Federal correctional institutions
    • Ability to travel and be on the road for multiple days at a time
